Camp Statement on February Jobs Report

March 9, 2012 — Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) released the following statement in reaction to the February jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor.  A net total of 227,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate for February was unchanged at 8.3 percent.

“While there is some good news in this report, it is hard to celebrate while so many Americans remain out of work and those who do have a job haven’t seen a raise in years.  This economy remains far too weak and the expected spike in gas prices could undo all the gains we have made.  More importantly, the President’s policies of higher taxes, more regulation and rejecting commonsense projects like the Keystone pipeline – all leading to higher gas prices – means many families will have to again cut back and will not be able to keep up with the cost of living.

“It is time that the President take a break from the campaign trail and start working with Congress to provide some real relief to employers and the American people.  Comprehensive tax reform is a great place to start.  It will make filing taxes easier and less costly, and it will strengthen our economy – meaning more jobs and more paychecks.”
