House Passes Second Economic Stimulus Bill
WASHINGTON – House lawmakers tonight gave the Senate another
opportunity to help displaced workers and create jobs.
By a 224-193 vote, the House now delivers a second economic
stimulus and worker relief bill to the Senate. It supports
American workers and families who are struggling with the economic
repercussions of September 11.
“People are hurting, and they need immediate and direct
assistance. Incentives for investment and job creation are also
needed. The House has now acted twice to deliver help for
American workers,” said Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas
(R-CA). “The Senate need only act once, but they must do it
now. The American people are waiting.”
The Economic Security and Worker Assistance Act of 2001
is a solid, balanced and comprehensive approach. The bill
combines fast and immediate help to workers displaced by September 11
and carefully crafted tax relief for businesses that create jobs and
generate economic growth.
