Chairman Thomas Names Deborah Williams to
Health Subcommittee Professional Staff
WASHINGTON - Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) today announced that Deborah Williams has
been named to the professional staff of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of Deborah Williams to the professional staff of the Ways
and Means Health Subcommittee. Deborah has distinguished herself as a knowledgable advocate
of Medicare reform, and her background in Medicare policy and operations will make Deborah a
valuable addition to the Committee," said Chairman Thomas.
A biography of Ms. Williams follows:
DEBORAH WILLIAMS
Deborah Williams formerly served as a Senior Analyst on the Medicare Payment
Advisory Commission, where she specialized in Medicare payment and regulatory burden issues.
Prior to that, Ms. Williams worked at the American Hospital Association, responsible for
isolating errors in the Medicare inpatient payment rule and creating other impact models to
reduce improper payments.
From 1989-1994, Ms. Williams served as Senior Policy Analyst for the Prospective
Payment Assessment Commission (Pro PAC) where she examined issues such as Medicare
profitability. Prior to joining Pro PAC, Ms. Williams developed regulatory proposals for the
Health Care Financing Administration from1986-1989, earning awards for her research. Before
coming to Washington, Ms. Williams worked for the Missouri Department of Social Services
where she focused on social welfare and state budget analysis.
Ms. Williams obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and her
Master of Applied and Social Economics from Wright State University.
