FROM THE COMMITTEE ON WAYS AND MEANS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Chairman Thomas Statement on President Bush’s Tax Relief Plan Monday, February 5, 2001 Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) today issued the following statement on President Bush’s plan to provide broad-based tax relief to all Americans: “I want to get to work right away. Many people in America are starting to feel some real pain. We are beginning to see layoffs, higher heating bills, and a growing erosion of consumer confidence.” “The surplus means it’s time for immediate, across-the-board tax relief for all taxpayers to boost our economy, create jobs, and give Americans more confidence by returning some of their surplus taxes to help them get through these uncertain times. We need to cut taxes for every American, especially low-income families.” “I look forward to receiving the President’s plan later this week.” |
