Chairman Thomas Announces Subcommittee Assignments of the Ways and Means Committee for the 107th Congress

January 5, 2001

Washington, DC - Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) today announced the Subcommittee Chairmen and Subcommittee assignments for the Ways and Means Committee in the 107th Congress.  Earlier today, Chairman Thomas announced that Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) will be the two new Republican Members of the Ways and Means Committee for the 107th Congress.

The Committee ratio for the 107th Congress will be 24 Republicans and 17 Democrats, a ratio of 58.5% for the majority and 41.5% for the minority.  Historically, the ratio of the Committee -- irrespective of what party controlled the majority - has been 60% for the majority and 40% for the minority.

“I am pleased to announce the new Subcommittee Chairs and the decision by the Committee to restore the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures to the Ways and Means Committee. The Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures will consider revenue items on a case-by-case basis at the referral of the Chairman of the Committee,” said Chairman Thomas.
