Chairman Crane’s
Statement on Administration’s Transmittal to Congress
of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement
WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee
Chairman Phil Crane (R-IL) today issued the following
statement in response to President Bush’s transmittal
of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement for
Congressional approval.
"I am delighted that President Bush has
transmitted the U.S. - Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement
to Congress for approval. This action sends a powerful
signal to Vietnam that the United States is prepared to
engage and gives invaluable support to reform-minded
leaders within Vietnam’s government," Chairman
Crane said.
"The BTA is a bipartisan document that embodies
years of cooperation by Republicans and Democrats in the
Administration and Congress, and its submission starts
the clock on the Jackson-Vanik process," added
Crane.
