Chairman Thomas Names Kirk Walder as Oversight Subcommittee Staff Director

WASHINGTON - Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) today named Kirk Walder as staff director of the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of Kirk Walder as staff director of the Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee. Kirk’s extensive background in investigation and fraud will be a valuable asset to the oversight responsibilities of the Subcommittee as we work to ensure the rights and protections of hardworking taxpayers,” said Chairman Thomas.

A biography of Mr. Walder follows:

KIRK E. WALDER

Mr. Walder has worked for the past three years as an investigator for Senator Susan M. Collins (R-ME), who serves as Chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Specifically, Mr. Walder worked on the availability of false identification on the Internet, deceptive mailings, telephone slamming and cramming, and a number of other consumer issues. Mr. Walder also advised Senator Collins on issues affecting the Postal Service and served as the principal media spokesperson for the Subcommittee on Investigations.

Prior to his position with Senator Collins, Mr. Walder was Chief of Staff and Press Secretary to Congresswoman Jan Meyers (R-KS) and Chief of Staff to then Congresswoman Olympia Snowe (R-ME). A native of Dixon, Illinois, Mr. Walder came to Washington, D.C. as a staff assistant to Congressman John B. Anderson (R-IL), working on the staff of the House Republican Conference as well as serving as Political Director of the Anderson for President campaign in 1980. Mr. Walder graduated from Illinois State University, majoring in Political Science.
