Statement of Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) on President’s Release of New Trade Policy Agenda

WASHINGTON, DC – The Bush Administration this afternoon released the President’s 2001 International Trade Agenda. Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas issued the following statement:

"If the United States is to remain the global trade leader, we must continue to open markets and break down barriers to free and fair trade. The President’s approach will help do just that and we look forward to moving ahead with his trade agenda.

This document also reflects that the President, in very significant ways, is taking into account the concerns raised by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. It is my hope that Democrats will be receptive to this new trade outline as we move forward in a bipartisan way to open markets for U.S. goods and services."
