House Passes
Reconciliation Bill
Economic Growth and Tax
Relief Reconciliation Act Passes Congress by 230-197
Vote
WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives today
passed the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation
Act of 2001, a plan giving Americans who pay income
taxes real relief as early as this year. The bill passed
by a vote of 230 to 197 with 13 Democrats voting in
favor of the plan.
This bill is identical to H.R. 3, originally passed
by the House on March 8th, with the exception
of the term "Reconciliation" added to the
title and the new designation of the H.R.1836 number.
This change took place in order to initiate the
reconciliation process.
"Today, the House of Representatives reaffirmed
its commitment to passing a responsible permanent
marginal rate reduction. I am pleased we are moving
forward to conference with the Senate so we can quickly
approve the tax relief plan and provide assistance to
American taxpayers," said Chairman Thomas.
