Are September 11th Charity Funds Promptly Reaching the Victims and Their Families?

WASHINGTON – An incredible outpouring of charitable contributions followed the September 11 attack on the United States.  Over $1 billion was collected for the victims of the tragedy.

However, many questions have surfaced about how quickly these funds are reaching victims and their families, and if the funds are being used as intended.   The Oversight Subcommittee will explore the response of these charitable organizations in meeting their promise to assist victims.

Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Amo Houghton (R-NY) said, “I want to believe that if a person gives money to help another - through a charitable organization - that money should end up as quickly as possible in the hands of the one who needs it."
