Thomas Welcomes President’s Nominee for
Treasury Secretary

Seeks to Build Upon Successful Economic Policies of Past Two Years

WASHINGTON - Today, Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) provided reaction on President Bush’s nominee for Treasury Secretary:

"I stand ready to work with the President's choice for Treasury Secretary, John Snow, as we build upon the successful economic policies of the last two years. During the 107th Congress, we delivered tax relief to the American people - a move that helped blunt the impact of the recession on lower and middle-income families. We then delivered incentives for growth and job creation while providing additional help to workers who lost their job.

"Many signs indicate that we are in the beginning stages of an economic recovery. In the third quarter, growth of GDP increased by 4.1 percent and productivity grew by 5.1 percent. Equipment investment has again turned positive. Mr. Snow and I have been in communication, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to craft policies to increase jobs and encourage economic growth."
