Shaw applauds Bush State of the Union;
Plans Ways and Means Field Hea
rings

WASHINGTON -- Rep. E. Clay Shaw, Jr., [R-FL], Chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee, provided this reaction to the President's State of the Union Address.

 "Tonight the President has made it clear: despite the war on terrorism and the economic recession, Social Security remains a key national priority. We can save Social Security for our children and grandchildren, if we work on a bipartisan basis and legislate for the next generation, not the next election.  We must build on the recommendations of the President's bipartisan commission, and get to work now.

My subcommittee will soon hold field hearings on college campuses so that young Americans, who have so much at stake, can make their views known."
