Chairman Thomas Responds to Administration’s Recommendations on Provider Payments

In a letter dated March 14, 2002, Secretary Thompson of HHS and OMB Director Daniels offered recommendations for Congress on ways to adjust Medicare payments for healthcare providers.

The letter was written in response to a request by Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-CA) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Nancy Johnson (R-CT). Chairman Thomas issued the following statement:

"The Administration's response regarding provider payments offers useful guidance as we begin the process of modernizing and strengthening the Medicare program. I look forward to working with the Bush Administration and Democrats on the Committee in making the necessary adjustments to ensure seniors have access to high quality care at a price beneficiaries and taxpayers can afford."
