Enhancing Social Security for Women, Seniors -- Chairman Shaw Adds a Day of Testimony for Members' Views

WASHINGTON—The average, hardworking American spends most of their life working to pay the mortgage and provide for their children’s future.  When the time comes to make the transition from the workplace to retirement, Americans rely on Social Security to provide its promised benefits.

Last week, lawmakers explored the challenges and considerations facing Social Security.   Rep. Clay Shaw (R-FL), Chairman of the Social Security Subcommittee, announced an additional day in order to continue the dialogue, and hear the views of Members of Congress.

Chairman Shaw, stated, “As we develop common ground on ways to secure Social Security’s future, opportunities exist for us to forge a bipartisan beginning.  We should begin now to improve women’s benefits, reassure seniors that their promised benefits are secure, and better educate Americans about Social Security.”
