For Immediate Release Principled Policy and Bold Ideas Matter WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) issued the following statement on the 2002 elections: "These past two years the Republicans in Congress worked hard to deliver tax relief, create jobs and promote economic growth. We successfully signed into law the Bush tax cut, an economic stimulus bill and trade promotion authority. "The electoral victories are a testament to the hard work of the Republican-led House, proving that issues, principled policy, and bold ideas matter. While our record of helping hard-working American families resonated with voters across the country, we can and must do more. "President Bush is to be commended for his strong leadership, his deep commitment to improving the quality of life for all Americans and working with the House and Senate to attain common sense reforms. “I am optimistic that House Republicans, with the cooperation of a new Republican Senate, will deliver much-needed reforms such as improving Medicare for our seniors and strengthening retirement security for workers. We will seek innovative solutions to ensure that every American has access to affordable health care. And we will seek to provide tax relief for families and small business owners across the country - tax relief that will help our economy grow faster." |
