Camp Statement on August Jobs Report
Washington, DC - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) released the following statement in reaction to the August jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. A net total of 169,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate for August decreased to 7.3 percent from 7.4 percent in July.
“While some job growth is better than no job growth, the fact is the economy could be creating more jobs and higher pay for workers if it wasn’t also trying to deal with all the mandates, taxes and regulations coming from the Administration. ObamaCare is increasing costs for families and individuals, and is resulting in employers cutting positions and reducing hours, which means less money for families. This is not a sustainable path. The law should be repealed, and we should start over with commonsense, step-by-step health care reforms that are focused on what concerns families and job creators the most – affordability. At the very least, if the Administration continues to delay implementation and handout waivers for special interests, then it should, at a minimum, treat average Americans fairly and delay the entire law for everyone.”
