Ryan Backs 40-Hour Workweek Bill

January 8, 2015 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON — Today, the House passed H.R. 30, the Save American Workers Act, introduced by Rep. Todd Young (R-IN), which would repeal the 30-hour definition of “full-time employment” in Obamacare and restore the traditional 40-hour definition. Upon passage, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued the following statement.

“Obamacare is holding back millions of people—especially young workers who are just getting started in life. Businesses and community colleges are cutting workers’ hours to avoid the employer penalty, and the law is making it that much harder to learn a new skill and find a better-paying job.

“With this change, employers will no longer fear letting their employees work a full week, and Americans can start getting the experience they need and the opportunity they deserve.”
