Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Committee Members Todd Young (R-IN) and Tim Griffin (R-AR) introduced two pieces of legislation to delay the individual mandate and the employer mandate contained within ObamaCare to provide relief to American families and businesses.
Commenting on the legislation, Chairman Camp stated, “The opposition to the law is growing across America. That is no surprise considering Americans are seeing skyrocketing premiums, families are losing the health insurance they have and like, and employers are cutting jobs, hours and wages. It is no wonder that these concerns have prompted the Obama Administration to delay the employer mandate. However, it is only fair that hardworking taxpayers and families are treated just as well as businesses. This commonsense legislation will achieve that fairness, and I applaud Congressmen Young and Griffin for their hard work.”
Upon introduction of H.R. 2668, the Fairness for American Families Act, Rep. Young stated, “From day one ObamaCare has been a bill littered with broken promises. Rather than driving health care costs down, the individual mandate is imposing a new tax and burdensome costs on middle class families. Rather than creating jobs, the employer mandate is leading to hourly employees seeing their work and wages cut. This is unacceptable, and hardworking Americans deserve the same exemptions that President Obama is unilaterally granting to businesses and labor unions. I’m proud to introduce legislation to that end with Tim Griffin on behalf of every American.”
Upon introduction of H.R. 2667, the Authority for Mandate Delay Act, Rep. Griffin commented, “The White House may believe it can unilaterally delay implementation of Obamacare’s employer mandate, but only Congress can change the law. My bill delays its implementation, saving jobs and protecting workers. I’m also honored to be an original cosponsor of my friend Todd Young’s bill, which will protect hardworking Americans from the individual mandate. Unlike the President, we know it’s not fair to give businesses and labor unions relief from Obamacare’s job-crushing provisions and leave families to deal with the disastrous consequences.”
