Washington, DC –Ways and Means Committee Republicans today sent a letter to Ways and Means Chairman Sander Levin (D-MI) requesting a hearing on the recently released non-partisan Congressional Budget Office analysis of the Democrats’ new health care law. The analysis predicted that federal health spending could increase by $115 billion or more over 10 years as a result of the Democrats’ health care overhaul. 

The letter also reiterated an unacknowledged previous request to the Chairman to hold a hearing on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ analysis which estimated that the law will increase health care spending by over $300 billion, includes over one-half trillion in cuts to Medicare that could jeopardize seniors’ access to care, and will result in 14 million Americans losing their employer-provided health benefits.

In the letter, the Republicans noted the importance of reviewing these analyses stating “None of this information was available to Members of Congress or the American people prior to passage of the health care law…Given the importance of these reports, and the costs to the American people highlighted therein, we again urge you to hold hearings promptly after Congress returns from the Memorial Day Recess.”
