Chairman Neal: “President Trump cannot be trusted to protect Americans’ health”
Sep 15, 2020
Following years of GOP attacks, the U.S. uninsured population increased by 1 million in 2019
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement regarding the latest Census Bureau statistics on health insurance coverage in the United States:
“The Trump Administration and congressional Republicans have spent years attacking our nation’s health care system, and today we learned the devastating consequences of that sabotage: In 2019, 1 million people, including more than 320,000 children, lost their health insurance. Instead of seeking to help more Americans access and afford high-quality health care, the President has promoted junk plans, undermined Medicaid, and made it more difficult for folks to enroll in coverage.
“Even now, during a pandemic that has killed nearly 200,000 Americans, Republicans continue to fight in the courts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. Ripping coverage from an additional 30 million people and eliminating protections for 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions will make our country sicker and our fight against COVID-19 harder.
“Today’s Census numbers add to mounting evidence that President Trump cannot be trusted to protect Americans’ health.”
