The Subcommittee on Health handles legislation and oversight related to programs paying for health care, health delivery systems, or health research authorized in the Social Security Act. It has sole oversight of the Hospital Insurance Trust Fund and the Medicare Part A services it funds – including those provided as part of inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility, hospice, lab tests, surgery, and post-acute care. The Subcommittee on Health also has jurisdiction over Medicare Parts B, C, and D (including the Supplemental Medical Insurance Trust Fund), Medigap, program integrity within those programs, as well as private health insurance programs and regulations. The Subcommittee on Health also oversees the Department of Health and Human Services’ administration, eligibility of and enrollment into Medicare, the Marketplace, and the other programs within its jurisdiction, as well as issues related to quality of and access to care as well as health care workforce and medical education. In coordination with the Full Committee, the Subcommittee on Health also provisions of the Internal Revenue Code relating to health care.
