Brady, Roskam Welcome Court Ruling in House’s Obamacare Lawsuit

September 9, 2015 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, a federal judge ruled that the House of Representatives has legal standing in its lawsuit against the Obama administration for spending taxpayer dollars on Obamacare without congressional approval. Now the suit will move forward. In response, House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statements.

“Republicans will continue to fight the White House’s unworkable and unaffordable health care law,” said Chairman Brady. “This lawsuit confirms that the Obama administration cannot usurp congressional authority and spend money that has never been approved.”

“Despite what he may think, the president is not above the law,” said Chairman Roskam. “Today, we took a major step forward in holding President Obama accountable for illegally funding parts of Obamacare that Congress never provided any money for. The Constitution couldn’t be clearer when it says, ‘No money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in consequence of appropriations made by law.’ This first ruling in our fight against the president’s lawless behavior is very encouraging.”
