Roskam Announces Oversight Subcommittee Hearing Reviewing Tax-Exempt College and University Endowments

September 6, 2016 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Peter Roskam (R-IL) today announced that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Back to School: Review of Tax-Exempt College and University Endowments” on Tuesday, September 13, at 10:00 AM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building. At the hearing, Members will hear from college and university representatives and other experts on how higher education tuition has increased so rapidly and how some institutions are using their tax-exempt endowments to fulfill charitable purposes and reduce costs for students.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Roskam said:

“The Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Members are deeply concerned that college tuition is spiraling out of control, making higher education out of reach for American families, even when most colleges and universities enjoy significant tax benefits. We look forward to learning about creative measures some institutions are taking to reduce costs for students, as well as to hearing about various tax policy proposals that could affect colleges and universities.”
