Sam Johnson to Serve as Interim Chairman of Ways and Means

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) resigned as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.  The Republican Steering Committee will meet to determine the next chairman of the full committee.  In the interim, Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Sam Johnson (R-TX) will serve as the committee’s acting chairman.  During this period all committee business will continue as scheduled. Upon this announcement, Chairman Johnson released the following statement.

“I am honored to serve the Ways and Means Committee during this time of transition. Under Chairman Ryan’s leadership we have enjoyed great successes, and I will continue to focus our efforts on critical issues moving forward.  Once the Steering Committee selects a new Chairman, I look forward to resuming my role as Chairman of Social Security Subcommittee.”
