Washington, DC – Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) today announced the promotions of Jill Schmalz to Senior Professional Staff and Sarah Swinehart to Press Secretary.
“I want to congratulate Jill and Sarah on their hard-earned promotions,” said Camp. “They provide significant contributions to the Ways and Means Committee to the benefit of our members and the entire House Republican Conference. Jill’s expertise, hard work and innovation helped craft the House Republican health care bill as well as highlight some of the most serious flaws in the Democrats’ plan. She has played a pivotal role in making health care a winning issue for Republicans and will be an invaluable member of our team as we try to protect patients, doctors and taxpayers from this government takeover of health care. Sarah has been and will continue to be important part of my communications team. Her initiative has expanded the reach and impact of our message on issues that affect every American.”
Schmalz has served as Professional Staff on the Health Subcommittee since May, 2009. Previously she served as Senior Professional Staff at the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where she handled health issues. On the Hill, Schmalz has also worked as Senior Health Policy Aide to former Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Nancy Johnson (R-CT) and as a Legislative Assistant to David Hobson (R-OH). Schmalz’s private sector work includes serving as the Director of Emerging Company Health and Regulatory Affairs for the Biotechnology Industry Organization and as Manager of Public Policy for the Association of Community Cancer Centers. Schmalz earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in both Economics and Political Science from Drury College.
Swinehart has been with the Ways and Means Press Office since June, 2009 as a Press Assistant. She began her Hill experience spending two summers with the House Republican Conference under Chairman Deborah Pryce and Chairman Adam Putnam. Swinehart started with the Ways and Means Committee in June 2008 as a staff assistant after graduating from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
