WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor’s June 2016 jobs report:
“While 287,000 jobs were created this month, the average pace of job creation this year is just 172,000 – well below the last two years. Americans are rightly concerned about our economic growth and deserve a better way forward. We can and must do better.
“That’s why House Republicans introduced our Blueprint to deliver a tax code built for growth – the growth of jobs, paychecks, and opportunities. According to the Tax Foundation, our Blueprint will grow the U.S. economy by 9.1%, create 1.7 million new jobs, and significantly raise Americans’ wages. That’s the kind of growth workers and their families need and deserve. That’s the kind of growth that will ensure America remains the strongest economy on Earth.”
Note: The Department of Labor reported today the economy added 287,000 jobs in June, but the unemployment rate rose to 4.9 percent.
