August 31, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – House Human Resources Subcommittee Chairman Vern Buchanan (R-FL) announced today that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Unemployment Insurance: An Overview of the Challenges and Strengths of Today’s System” on Wednesday, September 7, at 10:00 AM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building. This hearing will highlight how states are helping unemployed Americans get back to work, earn a paycheck, and support their families. The hearing will also discuss the solvency of the Unemployment Insurance system, as well as explore ways to ensure limited resources are effectively helping those most in need.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Buchanan said:

“A strong Unemployment Insurance program serves both the employers who fund it and the Americans who claim benefits. I look forward to hearing the perspective of employers and states, those who are on the ground, who have taken innovative steps to help unemployed Americans return to work quickly and improve the integrity of their Unemployment Insurance programs.”
