In the face of global pandemic, Americans are stepping up to help our medical providers and neighbors. As Rep. Kevin Brady said: “Coronavirus has knocked at America’s door, and with it fear. Faith is answering.”
Here are examples of how Americans are stepping up across the country.
More Drive-Thru Testing Sites
Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas will soon see more drive-thru testing sites thanks to Walgreens. The pharmacy chain announced plans to open 15 new sites. These locations were selected in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services “based on where COVID-19 cases are rising.”
Accelerating Vaccine Development
VGXI Inc, a plasmid DNA manufacturer based in The Woodlands, TX, announced that they have enabled a record-breaking timeline for manufacturing and release of a new DNA vaccine for clinical trial to fight coronavirus.
“Within a fraction of the typical manufacturing timeline, VGXI has manufactured and released a vaccine for human clinical testing,” said VGXI CEO Young Park. “We are proud to be a part of the global effort to address the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Masks for Those on the Front Lines
Honeywell plans to produce more than 6 million N95 masks for Arizona’s health care providers and first responders. This move, which will greatly aid those on the front lines of this battle, will also create more than 500 jobs for Arizonans in the Phoenix region.
A Night of Virtual Bingo
Texas native Matthew McConaughey held a virtual bingo night for seniors at Round Rock Senior Living. Residents participated via Zoom as the McConaughey family called off numbers.
“The generosity and kindness Matthew McConaughey and his family showed our residents was beautiful,” said Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Spectrum Marking William Swearingen.
