Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) released the following statement after the United States Senate voted to confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the Secretary of the United States Department of Labor:

“I congratulate my friend Lori Chavez-DeRemer on her confirmation as Secretary of the United States Department of Labor and look forward to working with her to advance President Trump’s America First agenda that Makes America Work Again. Secretary Chavez-DeRemer’s experience in the House of Representatives and as a business owner will be especially invaluable.

“Together, we will root out the fraud, waste, and abuse that led to the theft of hundreds of billions of tax dollars in the unemployment insurance program. We must pass reforms, like the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act, to strengthen oversight and accountability, and to strengthen this program so it can once again fulfill its intended purpose of assisting American workers in their time of need and eventually helping them transition back into the workforce.”
