WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its latest jobs report:
“Since the President’s inauguration, real wages have increased, putting more money in people’s pockets – and today’s jobs report was no different. That’s a complete 180 from the failed record of Joe Biden and Washington Democrats. The working families tax cut enacted this summer will create more good-paying jobs on Main Streets across the country, just like after the 2017 Trump tax cuts.
“Under President Trump, unemployment is low, working families’ paychecks are bigger, and businesses now have the confidence to invest in America’s future. Already, businesses are making plans to invest in America and expand because of the Trump tax cuts. Economic growth for our country is surpassing expectations and predictions, creating higher wages, more opportunity, and lifting more families out of poverty. Republicans’ tax relief for working families – like no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security, a permanent child tax credit and doubled standard deduction – rewards hard work, helps Americans provide for their families, and will spur more opportunity right here at home.”
