Smith Statement on September Jobs Report

November 20, 2025

Report shows 119,000 new jobs and wage growth continuing to beat inflation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the September jobs report 48 days late because of the Democrats’ government shutdown:

“119,000 new jobs and wages rising nearly 4 percent is more evidence the Trump agenda is making a difference for working families. Republicans passed the working families tax cuts to put more money back into people’s pockets and create more opportunity and that’s exactly what is happening.

“Republicans and President Trump know Americans still need more help affording the cost of living. That’s why the working families tax cuts stopped the largest tax hike in U.S. history and gave additional tax relief to the working class. Americans can expect bigger paychecks and bigger tax refunds thanks to the working families tax cuts. While Democrats raised prices and gave taxpayer handouts to the wealthy and well-connected, Republicans are putting more money back into the pockets of Main Street.”
