Health care costs have soared under Democrats’ policies, with the largest increase in prices in history. Worse, Democrats are killing medical innovation and the development of future cures with Washington price controls and top-down policies that get in the way of patients and their doctors. By achieving longer, healthier lives for Americans with greater freedom in health care and protecting vulnerable families, Republicans can deliver a future that’s built on freedom that’s a part of our Commitment to America.
Lower Prices through Transparency, Choice, and Competition
Lower Costs, More Cures: Instead of Democrats’ Washington price controls that will kill more than 300 cures, Republicans have a proposal that will lower health care costs and ensure America leads in health care innovation for more cures and treatments. We should give patients more drug price transparency and ensure public disclosure of drug costs and discounts, increase low-cost options by bringing more generic and biosimilar competition to the marketplace fast, and make insulin more affordable.
Investing in Life-Saving Cures
Made-in-America Medicines: Republicans are promoting more medical innovation and new life-saving cures by making it easier for companies to invest in America by maintaining deductions for research and development, doubling the R&D tax credit, allowing innovative start-ups to preserve the value of their tax deductions, and incentivizing companies to bring their intellectual property back to the United States.
Improving Access to Telemedicine
Telehealth is a crucial tool to increase access to health care for patients. During the pandemic, the average national weekly telehealth users jumped from 13,000 to 1.7 million. Rather than temporarily extending this flexibility, Congress should make it permanent and allow some 32 million employees across the country to access affordable telehealth services through their Health Savings Accounts.
Improving Opportunities for Foster Youth Transitioning to Independence
Republicans want to ensure foster youth are given the resources they need to live happy, healthy, productive lives. That includes ensuring youth have access to workforce opportunities and support they need to be successful in the labor force. We must equip these young Americans with the skills they need to reach their full potential through economic empowerment, and especially through expanded access to resources in the fields of science, technology, and the trades. The 20,000 youth who age out of foster care each year must have the tools to develop professional skills to thrive as adults.
