WASHINGTON, D.C. – After House Republicans voted to redirect $14.3 billion of the $80 billion Democrats originally gave to the IRS, President Biden and his allies are continuing to mislead the public on how they intended the additional IRS funding to be used.

Extremist Democrats continue to claim that they merely sought better customer service and audits only for the wealthy with the additional IRS funding. The opposite is true: Democrats prioritized funding for more audits for all taxpayers as confirmed by the Congressional Budget Office, while providing substantially less support for customer service.

To protect taxpayers, House Republicans – as part of a historic agreement with the White House and congressional Democrats to rein in federal spending – already redirected $21 billion of IRS funding in the Fiscal Responsibility Act. Now, another $14.3 billion is being redirected towards aid for Israel.

Here are the facts:

• Democrats allocated 14 times as much money for enforcement as they did for customer service.
• Shockingly the tiny portion of the $80 billion allocated for customer service will run out in just four years, while spending on new audits will skyrocket over the next ten years, as you can see here:

• Under their original plan, Democrats will ramp up their spending on hiring 87,000 new IRS agents year by year – resulting in more and more audits. This is to spread it out over time with the hope that no one will notice. Yet spending that focuses on supporting taxpayers with improved customer service and technology is far less robust.

Bottom Line: Extremist Democrats are obsessed with increasing audits for all Americans; thankfully a bipartisan coalition has now twice voted to rescind IRS funding, and some of those funds are now being redirected to support our ally, Israel.
