WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Brazil, Panama, El Salvador, and Costa Rica in Mid-April where members met with a range of government officials and private sector partners to discuss the strategic importance of strong relationships between the United States and constructive partners throughout Latin America to prevent the spread of the Chinese Communist Party’s influence in the Western Hemisphere. During the trip, Chairman Smith underscored the importance of fair and reciprocal trade partnerships between our nations and highlighted the importance of eliminating unfair trade barriers to U.S. exports, especially for U.S. agriculture producers, that harm American workers, small businesses, and farmers in order to foster economic opportunity and U.S. investment in the region.
