WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its jobs report, showing the economy created 147,000 new jobs last month:

“As the United States continues to emerge from an economy burdened by a Democrat spending-driven inflationary crisis, President Trump and congressional Republicans are leading on delivering an economy that works for working families, that brings immediate tax relief for low- and middle-income Americans and creates more small business jobs and manufacturing growth here at home.

“The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is the cornerstone of that agenda. It builds upon the economic success we are already seeing under President Trump and drives job growth built on private-sector investments and Main Street confidence, not more taxpayer-funded government bureaucracy. In fact, an estimated 7 million jobs will be protected and created under Republican tax policies while small businesses will add 1 million jobs each year.

“For working families, The One, Big, Beautiful Bill prevents a looming $1,700 tax hike and instead puts more money in Americans’ pockets – including upwards of $1,300 for tipped workers and $1,400 for hourly workers working overtime. Families will see a nearly $11,000 boost in take-home pay. This is why Republicans have been working each and every day to deliver tax relief and get The One, Big, Beautiful Bill to President Trump’s desk as soon as possible.”
