WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today announced that the Subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing on the Tax Return Filing Season. Members will also discuss efforts to protect Americans from identity theft related tax fraud and cybersecurity attacks. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Roskam said:

“Taxpayers expect and deserve an efficient IRS that works for them, and a huge part of that is ensuring a smooth filing season. Unfortunately, in recent years the IRS has failed to uphold that mission, leaving more and more taxpayers vulnerable to identity theft and cybersecurity attacks. These flaws are unacceptable and put hardworking Americans and their families at risk. That’s why we’re working to hold the IRS accountable for improving the filing process and securing sensitive taxpayer information. Next week’s hearing is an opportunity to examine how the IRS has responded to these threats and what more can be done to ensure that American taxpayers are protected from these growing threats.”
