Washington, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced three changes to his senior staff team for the Committee: Machalagh Carr will serve as General Counsel and Parliamentarian, Rachel Kaldahl as Oversight Staff Director, and Julia Slingsby as Communications Director.

Chairman Brady said:

“These incredibly qualified and accomplished professionals bring years of experience and policy expertise to our team. All of them have played crucial roles in helping deliver some of Congress’ most consequential legislative victories in recent years. They will be tremendous leaders in helping this Committee advance our pro-growth agenda as we continue to move our nation and economy forward.”

Carr most recently served as Oversight Staff Director for the Ways and Means Committee. Prior to that, she served on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as Director of Oversight and Investigations, and as Senior Counsel of Oversight and Investigations for the House Committee on Natural Resources. Before coming to Capitol Hill, Carr served in the Office of Global Compliance of an international energy company and was previously in private practice. Carr received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada and her JD from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.

Kaldahl joined the Ways and Means Committee as Oversight Counsel in the fall of 2016. Prior to joining the Committee, she served as Counsel for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. With over a decade of experience on Capitol Hill, she has also served in the personal offices of several House Members, including Committee Member Rep. Pat Meehan (R-PA). She received her bachelor’s degree from American University and her JD from Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law.

Slingsby joins the Committee from Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) office where she served as Deputy Communications Director. Prior to that, she served as Press Secretary for the House Committee on Natural Resources. She has also worked in the private sector as Communications Director for the Independent Petroleum Association of America and was Policy Director for a U.S. Senate campaign in 2014. She is a graduate of Fordham University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
