Washington, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement on President Trump’s proposal to fight the opioid epidemic:
“From day one, President Trump has been committed to combatting the opioid epidemic in America. Today’s announcement from the White House makes clear that we have a shared priority to protect families and our communities from these addictive drugs. We stand ready to work together with the President in the ongoing battle against opioids.
“The Ways and Means Committee has been working on a bipartisan basis on meaningful legislative solutions that will combat opioid abuse, protect patients, and improve our health care system. We have been listening to those who understand the harms of opioid addiction first-hand – hosting briefings and hearings, and continuously engaging stakeholder input. The appropriations legislation that the House will consider this week will have a renewed commitment to this priority. With a willing and eager partner in the Administration, we will continue our work to bring the opioid epidemic to an end once and for all.”
