Brady Announces Senior Staff Change for Ways and Means Republicans

January 27, 2021 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON—The top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced changes to his senior staff for the Committee, naming Derek Theurer as the new Republican chief tax counsel:

“We are excited to welcome Derek and his deep expertise on how the tax code can lead to more jobs, higher paychecks, and greater opportunity for individuals and families. He understands the importance of keeping America competitive and economically strong, both through his private-sector experience and also having worked on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for Senator Cassidy on the Senate Finance Committee. Derek will be a crucial ally as we work to stop Democrats’ job-killing tax hikes this congress and ensure we put American workers, families, and Main Street businesses first.”

Theurer most recently worked at the Business Roundtable as Vice President of Tax & Fiscal Policy. Prior to that, he served as Senior Tax Counsel to Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and as senior staff for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy. Before working on Capitol Hill, he held various positions at Exxon Mobil Corporation, advising on cross-border taxation, reorganizations, tax compliance, and health and retirement policy. Theurer graduated with highest honors in accounting from Utah State University, and he received his J.D. from UCLA and his LL.M. in Taxation from NYU.
