Washington, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health Chairman Peter Roskam (R-IL) wrote three letters to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma applauding action taken to date and encouraging the Administration to take further steps to improve patient care by alleviating administrative and regulatory burdens for Medicare providers.

These letters follow a recent report put out by the Committee discussing how lawmakers and the Administration can cut excessive red tape and regulatory burdens in the Medicare program. In these letters sent today, the Chairmen specifically highlighted areas where CMS can cut red tape for hospitals, post-acute care providers, and physicians and ancillary services.

Upon sending these letters, Chairmen Brady and Roskam said:

“Over the course of the past 18 months, this Republican Congress and the Administration have expressed an increased interest in reducing the ever-growing burdens faced by our nation’s health care providers.

“We applaud the Administration for recent efforts to improve the Medicare program by cutting red tape for beneficiaries and reducing the regulatory burden for providers. As part of the Committee’s Medicare Red Tape Relief Project, we urge the Administration to continue its efforts to reduce burden for providers and remove other regulatory barriers that get in the way of patient care.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Secretary Azar and Administrator Verma on additional opportunities to improve patient care and reduce health care costs by eliminating regulations that distract providers from patient care, drive up costs, hinder access, and get in the way of coordinated care.”
