WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Labor Department’s February 2018 jobs report:
“This report shows continued momentum in our economy. And with the help of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, our economy is finally starting to fire on all cylinders.
“In addition to strong jobs gains and unemployment nearing its lowest level since the turn of the century, real disposable income just hit its highest peak since 2015 and consumer confidence is near an all-time high. Now is the time to build off the strong economic momentum of the President’s tax cuts through sound trade policy. I am committed to working with the Administration to negotiate trade agreements that create U.S. jobs and growth through bold and enforceable obligations on our trading partners. In addition, we must ensure that the steel and aluminum tariffs just announced by the President are narrowly targeted and don’t harm our workers and manufacturers here at home.”
Note: The U.S. Department of Labor reported today that the economy added 313,000 jobs in February and the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent.
