Brady Statement on GDP Report for 1st Quarter 2017

April 28, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Economic Analysis released its report on GDP in the first quarter of 2017.

“This report underscores the urgent need for pro-growth tax reform. For eight years, the Obama Administration focused on growing the size and scope of the federal government—raising taxes and increasing regulations at the expense of America’s workers, families, and job creators. President Trump proved again this week that he is focused on growing our economy and leading America in a new direction.

“Now, for the first time in over 30 years, the House, Senate, and White House are moving forward together with comprehensive tax reform that will create jobs, increase wages, and increase America’s competitiveness. I’m confident, under President Trump’s leadership, we will deliver on our promise and our economy will grow at a faster rate.”

NOTE: Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 0.7 percent in the first quarter of 2017.
