Brady Statement in Support of USDA Action to “Reform SNAP and Restore the Dignity of Work”

December 4, 2019 — Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – Today, the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the United States Department of Agriculture issued a final rule that strengthens work requirements in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) for able-bodied adults without dependents:

I support USDA’s actions to reform SNAP and restore the dignity of work. Thanks to tax reform and worker-focused policies of the Trump Administration, we are experiencing the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. With 7 million job openings, there has never been a better opportunity for families to climb the economic ladder, especially for low- and middle-income workers – last year alone, 1.4 million individuals were lifted out of poverty. Today’s rule represents another important step by the Trump Administration to restore the emphasis on work in our safety net programs, ensuring no one gets ignored or stays stuck on the sidelines in our growing economy.”
