Brady Statement on CMS Action Resuming Risk Adjustment Payments

July 24, 2018 — Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement regarding the final ruling issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) allowing them to resume Obamacare’s risk adjustment payments:

“I applaud the work of the Trump Administration to resume these payments. The recent ruling in the New Mexico court on the risk adjustment methodology and implementation that began under the Obama Administration would have had a devastating impact and increased health care costs on millions of hardworking Americans. This action by CMS allows the continuation of risk adjustment payments and collections, private dollars that are transferred from one insurer to another, ensuring certainty in the individual and small group markets.

“As families across the country continue to see rising costs and never-ending increases to their premiums due to the failures of Obamacare, Republicans are committed to continue our work with President Trump and Secretary Azar to bring relief to patients and families nationwide.”
