Brady Statement on Updated Congressional Budget Office Analysis of the House-Passed American Health Care Act

May 24, 2017 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement regarding the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) updated analysis of the House-passed American Health Care Act (AHCA)—legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare:

“Today, the CBO confirmed the American Health Care Act will further lower premiums, deliver more immediate tax relief for individuals and families, and decrease the deficit. This report makes clear ACHA is an important step toward rescuing Americans from Obamacare’s failures—including fewer and fewer health care options and higher and higher premiums. Under our proposal, individuals and families in Texas and across the country will have the freedom to choose a health care plan that is right for them. And Washington will no longer force Americans to buy expensive, inadequate coverage they don’t like and cannot afford to use.

“As the Senate continues its work to strengthen this legislation, House Republicans will move forward with even more solutions to fix our nation’s broken health care system and increase access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans.”

NOTE: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) just released a new analysis this week that shows, under Obamacare, premiums doubled for individual health insurance plans since 2013—the year before many of Obamacare’s regulations and mandates took effect.
