WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced today that the Committee will hold a hearing on President Trump’s fiscal year 2019 budget proposals for the Department of Treasury on Thursday, February 15, at 10:00 am in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will be the sole witness.
In announcing the hearing, Chairman Brady said:
“We are excited to welcome Secretary Steven Mnuchin to discuss President Trump’s proposed 2019 budget for the Department of Treasury. Last year – working together with the Secretary and President Trump – we successfully delivered historic tax reform to the American people. Already, we are seeing the positive impacts this new tax law is having for hardworking families and local businesses across the country.
“Now we have a shared responsibility to ensure this new tax law is working for all Americans. That includes making sure the IRS is focused on serving taxpayers and administering this new tax code fairly, effectively, and with integrity.
“We also have an opportunity to build on the success of tax reform to ensure our economy continues to grow and Americans continue to see more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks. I look forward to discussing with Secretary Mnuchin ways we can work together to keep this momentum going and make our economy even stronger.”
Next week, President Trump is expected to submit his fiscal year 2019 budget proposals to Congress. The proposed budget will detail the Administration’s tax and spending proposals for the coming fiscal year as well as provide an overview of the budget for the Treasury Department and other activities of the Federal government. These proposals, and Treasury’s actions, largely fall under the jurisdiction of the Ways and Means Committee.
