Democrats in Tax Hike Disarray

June 7, 2012 — The Tax Tracker

In the past two days, both former President Clinton and former Economic Advisor to President Obama, Larry Summers, argued against the President’s push to raise taxes on American families, small businesses and investors. Today, another top Democrat, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, joined in.  As reported in Politico, “Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), a member of the Gang of Six, said in an interview that it ‘might make some sense’ to extend all the taxes in the short term…”

These three Democrats aren’t alone, however, in opposing the President’s current position.  In fact, the President was for it before he was against it.  In 2010, he signed a law to extend ALL the current tax rates.  Here is a look at Democrats who disagree with the current President Obama:

  • President Obama in 2010
  • Former President Bill Clinton
  • Former Economic Advisor for President Obama Larry Summers
  • 40 Sitting Senate Democrats (who sided with the GOP and the President in 2010)
  • 85 Sitting House Democrats (who sided with the GOP and the President in 2010)

The President should side with Republicans and the majority of Americans and work now to prevent massive job-killing tax hikes on all hardworking Americans.
