WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) today announced that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “The Current Status of the Medicare Program, Payment Systems, and Extenders” on Thursday, May 18, at 2:00 PM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building. At the hearing, Members will examine opportunities to create more efficiency in Medicare and better serve the more than 50 million seniors who receive care through its many programs. Specifically, Members will review various Medicare payment policies—including post-acute care—as well as several Medicare programs that are set to expire before the end of the year.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Tiberi said:

“More than 50 million seniors and individuals with disabilities rely on Medicare for access to health care, and that number will only continue to grow as more and more Americans head into their retirement years. We must ensure this critical program is helping improve health outcomes for Americans—for those currently enrolled in the program and for future generations. That’s why we’re having this hearing: to examine the effectiveness of the Medicare payment policies—including programs that are set to expire before the end of the year—and look for ways to strengthen the quality and delivery of care. We need to ensure each dollar spent and each program are benefitting the people they are intended to serve.”
