Washington, DC – Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) today released the following statements in response to the announcement of the invitation for Canada to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations.

Chairman Camp: “I am pleased with Canada’s invitation to join the TPP talks, and Canada’s participation will further increase the value of TPP.  I appreciate Canada’s commitment to resolve key issues and adopt TPP’s high standards and ambition.  Being from Michigan, I am well aware of the importance of our economic relationship with Canada and our long history of working together to promote economic growth and competitiveness.  I look forward to consulting closely with Ambassador Kirk and his team as we continue our domestic process for Canada to join TPP.” 

Chairman Brady: “I applaud the invitation to Canada to join the TPP talks and welcome Canada’s commitment to meet the level of ambition and timetable of the negotiations.  Adding our number one trading partner will make TPP an even greater opportunity to expand U.S. exports and create American jobs.  It will also further establish TPP as a Pacific-region agreement incorporating countries from both Asia and the Americas.”
