WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) announced today that the Committee will hold a hearing on President Obama’s budget proposals for the Department of Treasury for fiscal year 2017 on Thursday, February 11th at 10:00 AM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building.
Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will be the sole witness.
Upon announcing this hearing, Chairman Brady said:
“We’re looking forward to speaking with Secretary Lew about the President’s tax proposals. Most importantly, committee members will continue to make the case that Americans deserve a 21st century tax code.
“After years of slow economic growth, we must move forward with domestic and international tax policies that boost investment and create more good-paying jobs. Fixing our broken tax code is one of our Committee’s top priorities. We will use this hearing to encourage Secretary Lew and the entire Obama Administration to work with Congress on a pro-growth agenda.”
On February 9, 2016, the President is expected to submit his fiscal year 2017 budget proposal to Congress. The proposed budget will detail the Administration’s tax and spending proposals for the coming fiscal year as well as provide an overview of the budget for the Treasury Department and other activities of the Federal government. These proposals, and Treasury’s actions, largely fall under the jurisdiction of the Ways and Means Committee.
